Why I always choose London…

You may have seen my recent "This or That" European city edition on Instagram. I pitted 10 of my favorite cities against each other—Paris, Rome, Florence, Copenhagen... standard powerhouses.

The result? London won. Every. Single. Round.

It wasn't a contest. It's the hum of Soho, the quiet elegance of a Mayfair street at dusk, and the intuitive service that knows exactly when you need a quiet table for two.

To celebrate the champion, I’m sharing my personal AH Travels London City Guide, including the actual interactive map I use to scout for my clients.

My Top 3

These aren't just "the best" hotels or restaurants; they are the moments that truly stay with me.

The Boutique Stay: Hazlitt’s

When I scout for "Atmosphere over Amenities," Hazlitt’s in Soho is exactly what I mean. Hidden in plain sight across three historic Georgian townhouses dating back to 1718, this hotel is a literal treasure chest for those who love old-world elegance.

The vibe here is purely cinematic. Imagine antique four-poster beds, slanted floors that lean into their history, and deep, freestanding clawfoot bathtubs. My favorite "un-googleable" detail? The library, where you can snuggle up with a book by the fireplace and might even be joined by the resident cat, Sir Godfrey. It’s a tranquil haven right in the heart of buzzy Soho.

The Favorite Restaurant: Scully St. James's

For a dining experience that truly "pushes the envelope," I always send my clients to Scully St. James's. Chef Ramael Scully brings a wildly eclectic palette to the table, blending his Malaysian-Australian heritage into dishes that are an explosion of flavors you won't find anywhere else in the UK.

The atmosphere here is "disarmingly intimate," especially if you sit near the open kitchen where it feels like a private chef’s table. Don't miss the famous arepa with eggplant sambal—it is a staple on their menu for a reason. It’s fine dining without the stuffiness, where the shelves are literally laden with the spices and ferments that make their food so distinct.

The Favorite Shopping: Borough Market

While most tourists head to Oxford Street, I prefer the sensory feast of Borough Market. With a history stretching back over 1,000 years, this is London’s culinary heart. It’s an immersive experience where the Victorian ironwork and glass roofing perfectly frame the energetic chatter of the traders.

I love it for the "scouting" potential—finding Neal's Yard Dairy for artisanal cheeses or Bread Ahead for their world-famous doughnuts. It’s a maze of narrow passageways and hidden corners that perfectly rewards the curious traveler looking for high-quality, sustainable British produce.
